Restaurants in Healesville

Healesville is the unofficial capital of the Yarra Valley. Sixty kilometres east of Melbourne CBD, it sits at the entrance to the upper Yarra Valley and the Acheron Way — the country's most direct route into Marysville and Lake Mountain — making it the natural overnight stop or daytime base for a weekend in the region.

The town's dining scene is the densest in the Yarra Valley by a margin. Within a 10-minute walk of the main street you'll find the Terminus Hotel (one of the region's most-loved country pubs and a 300-click GSC winner), Innocent Bystander (a casual winery restaurant), the historic Healesville Hotel, Beechworth Bakery (a heritage bakery institution), Herd (a hybrid café and wine bar that's become a local favourite), and a string of cafés, distilleries and casual dining venues. Four Pillars Gin operates its flagship distillery and bar here. Hargreaves Hill Brewing Co's taproom is a five-minute drive away.

Beyond eating, Healesville hosts the Healesville Sanctuary (the region's most-visited paid attraction), the Saturday morning farmers' market at the Memorial Hall, several boutique galleries, and the start of multiple bushwalking trails into the Yarra Ranges National Park. The town's heritage architecture is unusually intact — much of the main street still reflects the late 1800s railway-terminus era from which the Terminus Hotel takes its name.

The drive from Melbourne CBD takes 60-75 minutes via the Maroondah Highway. Public transport options are limited: the train terminates at Lilydale and the connecting Yarra Valley bus services run infrequently. Most visitors drive. Parking is generous and free across the town centre.
