Yarra Junction sits at the eastern end of the Yarra Valley, where the highway splits between Warburton (further east into the ranges) and Powelltown (south through the forests). The suburb is the largest commercial centre in the upper Yarra Valley after Healesville and Warburton, with a small but solid range of cafés, takeaways, and the Yarra Junction Hotel.

The character here is firmly rural — Yarra Junction is more a working country town than a tourist destination, useful as a fuel and food stop on the way to Warburton or as a base for accessing the upper Yarra Valley back country (Hoddles Creek, Launching Place, Powelltown).

The drive from Melbourne CBD takes 75-85 minutes via the Warburton Highway.
