Restaurants in Warburton

Warburton sits at the upper end of the Yarra Valley, where the river bends through a steep forested valley and the country shifts from cleared agricultural land into the Yarra Ranges National Park. The town is markedly cooler and wetter than the central Yarra Valley wine country — a different climate that produces a different visitor experience.

The Warburton dining scene is smaller than Healesville's but with its own character. The main street runs along the Yarra River and includes the Warburton Hotel, several cafés and bakeries, the historic Warburton Theatre Cinema, and the Yarra River foreshore parkland. Beyond the village, the surrounding hills shelter small wineries, cellar doors, and a handful of restaurants in the smaller towns of Wesburn, Millgrove, Don Valley, and Big Pats Creek.

The Warburton Rail Trail is the region's biggest non-food drawcard — a 38km flat cycling/walking trail along the disused railway line between Warburton and Lilydale. Most weekends see hundreds of cyclists, walkers, and families on the trail, with food and coffee stops at intervals all along the route.

Warburton also serves as the gateway to the Yarra Ranges proper — Mount Donna Buang (a popular winter snow destination), the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort, the Acheron Way drive to Marysville, and multiple bushwalking trails into the surrounding mountain ash forests.

The drive from Melbourne CBD takes 80-95 minutes via Lilydale and the Warburton Highway. Public transport is limited to infrequent buses from Lilydale. Most visitors drive.
